I hope you enjoyed your vacation. We will spend this next week wrapping up our second math module and next week will kick off our study of fractions. As a preview....we will delve into our fractional reasoning and develop strategies to use the four operations with fractional values.
A handout of the following is provided, however take a moment to review......
Module 2 Assessment & Study Info
Assessment begins Friday 3/9/18
Study sessions in March:
Thursday 3/8
Thursday 3/15
Monday 3/26
For the assessment, make sure you can.....
____ divide values that use powers of 10 and fact families without needing to use the long division algorithm ( 1200 ÷ 40 = 30)
____find the estimated answer to a division problem using powers of ten and fact families. (If the problem is 582 ÷ 83 then use 560 ÷ 80 = 70.)
____determine the missing divisor if given the dividend and quotient using your understanding of place value ( 625 ÷ ____ = 6.25 the missing divisor is 100)
___divide by a single digit divisor where the quotient has a decimal value
( 26 ÷ 8 = 3.25)
____ use the long division standard algorithm to divide by a two digit divisor (3392 ÷ 32 = 106)
____ convert units in a word problem before solving a problem. (if 3.5 lbs of flour are used, but unit required is ounces, will convert pounds to ounces by multiplying 3.5 x 16 before solving.)
Our homework this week will provide you sample problems that will help you on the assessment. Make sure to complete the assignment each night - we will correct together at the beginning of each class as a review.
